Director's Statement |

Although a controversial belief in the scientific community, I strongly believe that animals have thoughts and feelings. I also believe that they possess the ability to communicate with each other telepathically. I incorporated the narrative elements to heighten the real drama that these animals face. It is important to me, as well as many animal experts whom I interviewed, that fact not be confused with fiction. For this reason, I did not write the stories until after I finished shooting. This way, I could absorb as much as I could about the animals: their lifestyles, personalities, interactions with each other and their environment. I hope to teach people about the hardships that animals face in a manner that makes learning fun. It is also my hope that ANIMAL CRACKERS will give a voice those who cannot speak for themselves. - Kamala Appel |
